Die Inselgruppe der Komoren liegt zwischen der Nordspitze von Madagaskar und der Ostküste Afrikas. Drei der insgesamt vier Inseln bilden eine unabhängige Republik. Die südöstlich gelegene Insel Mayotte ist nach wie vor französischer Besitz.

Die Landesbezeichnung hat sich vom arabischen "Kamar" (Mondinsel) abgeleitet.

Udzima wa ya Masiwa ist seit der Unabhängigkeit 1975 die Nationalhymne der Union der Komoren. Sie wurde von Said Hachim Sidi Abderemane und Kamildine Abdallah komponiert; erstgenannter schrieb auch den komorischen Text.
