Kamerun liegt am Golf von Guinea zwischen West- und Zentralafrika. Es grenzt im Süden an Äquatorialguinea, Gabun und Kongo, im Osten an die Zentralafrikanische Republik, im Norden an Tschad und Nigeria.

Der Name Kamerun leitet sich vom Kamerunfluß ab, den die Portugiesen im 15. Jahrhundert als Rio dos Cameros, Fluß der Krabben, bezeichneten.

Die am 10.05.1957 als Staatslied angenommee Hymne existiert in einer französischen und einer englischen Fassung. Das Lied wurde als inoffizielle Hymne bereits seit 1948 verwendet. 1978 wurde der Text geändert.
